SB 830 "Paycheck Protection" Update

BREAKING NEWS FROM TALLAHASSEE:

Dirty Politics Underway in Tallahassee - It appears Sen. Gaetz (R) has attached the dues deduction bill (SB 830) to another bill in a last ditch effort to get passage of SB 830.  This is the same Senator that wanted to consolidate all of the toll authorities so funds from the toll authorities could be used to pay off a bridge in his home county.  Sen. Gaetz (R) represents District 4 which is in the panhandle of Florida.

SB830 in it's "rider" form (attached to another Bill) is on a "Special Calendar" for April 29, 2011Now it is May 2, 2011. No wait, now it's May 3, 2011, Rescheduled again May 4, 2011, Rescheduled May 5, 2011, Rescheduled May 6, 2011, Session Extended through Saturday, May 7, 2011.

Florida Senators Vote Record for SB 830 - "Paycheck Protection"
Saturday, 23 April 2011 17:56

SB 830 -   Introduced by Senator Thrasher and Co-Introduced by Sentor Gaetz.

On April 20, 2011, SB 830 was scheduled for a second reading for the session starting on Monday, April 25, 2011.  Below are the voting results in the three committees; Community Affairs Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Rules Committee.

What does all of this mean?  There were 30 Senators who participated in one or more of these committees.  In one case, Senator Flores voted Yea in one committee and Nay in another.  There were no votes recorded for two Senators, Senators Bullard and Lynn.  Out of the remaining 28 Senators and considering Senator Flores will continue to vote in opposition to SB 830, there would be 15 Nays and 13 Yeas.  Throw in those two Senators who did not have a vote recorded and it could be a tie among committee members with the remaining 10 Senators (a total of 40 Senators in the Florida Senate) controlling the outcome of whether or not this SB 830 passes the Senate.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 25 will contact the remaining 10 Senators along with Senators Flores, Bullard, and Lynn to find out where they stand on SB 830.  This bill will be sent to the Senate Floor for a vote before May 6, 2011; the end of the session.  It is important, more than ever, that each of our members contact these Senators and voice their opposition to SB 830 and encourage the Senators to vote in opposition to SB 830.

The remaining 10 Senators who could defeat SB 830, who have not casted a vote in committees, and whom we do not know their position are:

D - Senator Braynon

The Fraternal Order of Police commends legislators like Soto, Scott, and Thompson who recognize unnecessary legislation that negatively impacts public employees. Unfortunately, HB 1020 passed the Florida House of Representatives and a companiion bill is going through the Florida Senate.
